 Click the image to enlarge | What is CCSVI Chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency (CCSVI) is a hypothetic syndrome in which the blood vessels, the venous system, is unable to efficiently drain the deoxygenated blood from the central nervous system. This is due to stenosis (narrowing) of the jugular vein and the azygos vein, or problems with the valves in the veins. A similar complex vascular connection was discovered by Paolo Zamboni, who had also reported the presence of CCSVI in people suffering from multiple sclerosis (MS patients). The examination at PrescanPrescan has, on basis of the many question asked by MS patients, made a study of the developments, the causes and the possibilities that Prescan has to offer. Beside this there has been intensive contact with MS patients and a number of test examinations were done with MS patients. Prescan works according to the protocols of Dr. Zamboni and Dr. Hacke.
The examination for CCSVI at Prescan consists of;
- MRV (Magnetic Resonance Venography) – using a contrast agent
- Echo Doppler / Duplex

Information about the use of a CT scan Prescan does not offer a CT scan for the diagnosis, as it does not provide any extra advantages for the identification of CCSVI. Beside at this stage of the diagnosis it is not medically essential to undergo a CT scan, during which, you as client are unnecessarily exposed to X-rays. If indeed CCSVI is detected, then it certainly would be medically justifiable, within the scope of the treatment, to have a CT scan done.

Prescan has made an in-depth study of the CCSVI matter. The doctor has spent much time in making a diagnosis and explaining it to us. The constrictions in my jugular vein that were so difficult to find (could not be pin-pointed in the Doppler pictures) were localized in the crystal clear MRI images by the doctor. We also really appreciated the fact that a bilingual (Dutch and German) attendant was at our service. At times like that one needs someone who has complete command of the two languages and who can explain the nuances or translate that one German word that you just can not recall. Considering what was achieved in such a short time, I have complete confidence that Prescan will continue increasing in proficiency in the field of CCSVI scans.
