Thijs (32) visited the Prescan clinic in mid-July for a Bodyscan Basic. He wasn't necessarily worried about having health issues but found the idea of a health check as a precaution reassuring. ‘I had wanted to do such a scan for a while, just as a precaution. My mother-in-law went to Prescan a few years ago. I got the details from her, so I called. After choosing the package, I was informed that I could be seen that week in Ahaus,’ says Thijs.
‘It was less than a two-hour drive from the Oss region, and parking was free. We initially stood across the road, but once on the right side, we were warmly welcomed by Inge, a Dutch guide. During the intake conversation, we went through the day together; my girlfriend was allowed to join. We also received a clear explanation of what they could see on the scans.’
Calm and Safe Feeling
After Thijs settled in with a cup of coffee, he could proceed to the room where the MRI scanner is located. The brand-new MRI scanner used in Ahaus is the same as the one in the Prescan clinic in Baarn. Thijs spoke highly of it: ‘The room where the MRI scanner is located is very bright and feels open because of the many windows. This provides a calm and safe feeling during such a clinical experience, which is always somewhat exciting. Inge was there to calmly explain things, while another staff member gave instructions on how I could lie best. I must say it was comfortable, but forty-five minutes is still a very long time to be in such a machine.’
Fortunately, No Abnormalities
Thijs wasn't anxious about the scan results, but he did think about his father for a moment. 'Our dad had one of those scans two years ago and discovered that he only had one kidney. He had it all his life. It functioned perfectly fine, but it was unusual. Luckily, there were no abnormalities for me, although the prostate was slightly larger than usual. The radiologist spoke very good Dutch, with a German accent. Together, we reviewed the MRI images. I was very happy that everything was fine. You do step outside a little differently then.'
