Hormones and metabolism

Hormones and metabolism affect various processes in the body and change throughout the female life cycle. Factors such as cycle, pregnancy, perimenopause, and menopause can be associated with changes in energy regulation, fat distribution, and cardiovascular health.

Hormones, metabolism and health

Hormonal processes influence sleep, mood, glucose regulation, fat distribution and energy expenditure, among other things. Changes in hormonal balance can therefore affect multiple systems in the body at the same time.

Metabolic health also plays an important role. Factors such as insulin sensitivity, body composition and visceral fat (fat tissue surrounding the abdominal organs) are related to how the body processes and stores energy.

Many of these changes develop gradually and initially cause no clear symptoms. This has led to growing attention to health in a broader context, where hormonal changes are considered in relation to metabolic and cardiovascular processes.

This knowledge base covers topics including hormonal fluctuations, perimenopause, menopause, insulin resistance and metabolic health in women.
