Johan: 'Years ago, we first went to Prescan for my father. That was around 2007, and that was when he was diagnosed with lung cancer. Within a month, he was successfully operated on and began rehabilitation. That experience prompted us to also have a bodyscan done – and since then, we have been huge fans. That was also the starting point for our periodic scans, which we have done every 2 to 3 years.'
Mary: 'I actually see such a bodyscan as a kind of snapshot of your body. How are you doing and do you have any abnormalities? This way, you have a baseline measurement and can be sure that everything is fine. Additionally, you can compare the results of such an examination when you return after a few years. Then you see if anything has changed in the meantime. After all, forewarned is forearmed.'
Johan: 'In addition, the examinations are also very motivating, oddly enough. You receive confirmation that you are on the right track and maintaining your body well by, for example, exercising, not smoking, and living healthily. Such confirmation brings a great deal of satisfaction. Plus, when the arteries around your heart become clogged, it is probably very nice to know that beforehand so it can be addressed in time. If you don't know that, you'll only get the shock much later.'
Everyone on Time
Mary: 'In the meantime, our children have also gone to Prescan for a preventive medical examination. We want to make sure they are healthy and can get the most out of life. Spending time together remains incredibly important, as the coronavirus pandemic has also shown.'
Johan: 'By having ourselves periodically examined, we can also make comparisons where necessary. For example, one of my acquaintances has a brain tumor. He never had any symptoms from it, until he started noticing something last year. After some examinations, the doctors even indicated that the tumor had been there for about 10 years. You wouldn’t wish that on anyone; you hope to catch something in time.'
Mary: 'For several years now, we have also have a number of grandchildren. That might be one of the biggest motivators for visiting Prescan from time to time. We do it for our children and grandchildren. It would be wonderful for them if they could spend as much time as possible with their parents and grandparents!'
Relaxed Atmosphere
Johan: 'The examinations are very relaxing. Everything happens at the same location. You're picked up from the lounge, guided to the examination, and then go back to the same, familiar spot. Meanwhile, you can have something to eat or drink if needed. You feel at ease, which alleviates a lot of tension.'
Mary: 'That's true. What's remarkable is that many people find it scary that we have such examinations. 'You don't want to know, do you?!' they exclaim when we talk about Prescan. Then you realize that some people aren't open to it at all.'
Johan: 'Sure, it can be scary at first, but all the specialists continuously reassure you during the examinations and when discussing the results. A huge weight lifts off your shoulders when they tell you there's nothing wrong. And if there is, you catch it in time. But people often don't understand why you'd want to face that. For them, the unknown is apparently better.'
Enduring Memory
Mary: 'For your health alone, I can recommend a bodyscan. It's not seeking confrontation, but rather gaining insight into your current state. If something comes up, you can take the right steps to come out stronger.'
Johan: 'And if I hadn't gone to Prescan with my father 13 years ago, they probably wouldn't have found his lung cancer in time, and he wouldn't be alive now. That's a shining example for us of why we have periodic, preventive examinations. Last time, my father was diagnosed with lymphoma. Thanks to that outcome, he could address it in time again.'
Mary: 'We remain down-to-earth people and don't worry easily. Still, it's nice to know for sure that everything is going well. It's important to have your body checked periodically, as it has always been with my father-in-law. It certainly holds up a mirror to us to go to Prescan at set times.'
Johan: 'Admittedly, it's not cheap to have an examination done. Especially with kids, you're spending quite a bit. People would rather spend that money on a mobile phone or other things they want. However, we believe you should invest it in your own health, as that's where you'll benefit most.'
