Blood Test Vitamins

Insight into your blood

What is examined in Blood Test Vitamins?

Maintaining optimal levels of vitamins is essential for good health. By regularly checking your vitamins, you can proactively ensure a healthy diet and supplement any deficiencies. A lack of vitamins can lead to various health problems. An additional blood examination for vitamins shows if you are getting enough vitamins from your diet, especially if you eat vegetarian or vegan.

  • By measuring a wide range of values, you get a good picture of your overall health.
  • With the results, you can make lifestyle adjustments to reduce health risks, such as dietary changes or increased physical activity.
  • Urine and blood examinations are simple and often painless ways to gather important information about your health.
  • Reliable results within a few days.

Provides insight into

This additional blood test measures the levels of five different vitamins in the body: B1, B2, B6, B12 & folic acid.

It is possible that an examination may lead to incidental findings. Before the examination, Prescan will ask you whether you would like to be informed about incidental findings for which monitoring or treatment is possible, as well as incidental findings related to conditions that may affect your offspring. Prescan is not permitted to inform you about incidental findings for which no monitoring or treatment is possible (see NEN 8051 standard for more information).

Parameters
  • Folic acid (vitamin B9): Supports the production of red blood cells and DNA, essential during pregnancy.
  • Vitamin B6: Involved in amino acid metabolism, the formation of red blood cells, and maintaining a healthy nervous system. B6 plays a role in converting food into energy, producing neurotransmitters (chemical messengers in the brain), and regulating homocysteine levels in the blood.
  • Vitamin B12: Required for the production of red blood cells and nerve health; deficiency can lead to anemia and neurological complaints.
  • Vitamin B1 (Thiamine): Supports energy production and the nervous system; deficiency may cause fatigue and nerve damage.
  • Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin): Helps with energy production and cell growth; deficiency may cause skin problems and fatigue.
  • Vitamin D: Supports the absorption of calcium and phosphorus.

Pros and cons

  • Early detection: It helps identify issues such as diabetes or high cholesterol early, even before you experience symptoms.
  • Health monitoring: It provides a good overview of your general health and can track any changes over time.
  • Prevention: By spotting abnormalities early, you can prevent or reduce health problems by adjusting your lifestyle.
  • Lifestyle advice: With the results, you can receive personalised advice on how to improve your health.
  • The blood test is safe and can be repeated without risk.
Cons:
  • Unnecessary concerns: Minor abnormalities may cause worry, even if they don't require immediate treatment.
  • False-positive results: The test may indicate an issue when there is actually nothing wrong, leading to extra stress and further investigations.
  • False-negative results: Sometimes problems are missed, giving a false sense of security.
  • Invasive: It requires a blood test, which can be uncomfortable or stressful for some people.
