Esther Hendriksma (48) had been living for years with the feeling that something might be wrong. She leads a healthy lifestyle, enjoys every day, and is happy with her family. Yet she felt a certain discomfort.
'I reached an age where you can start developing ailments. I felt that I might have them too because I always assume the worst. The GP couldn't find anything, and I didn't have any direct symptoms. Still, the doubt kept lingering in my mind.
On vacation, I met a woman who had gone to Prescan for a preventive medical examination. She told me: you should do it, it relieved me of my fears. Well, I'm as happy as a child that I followed her example.
At Prescan, I can also go for follow-up examinations. This way, I can monitor any changes in my health by comparing examination results.'
Being on Time
Esther's story sounds familiar to Cristina Dowling. Many of her clients have doubts about their health. 'I see people without direct complaints, but with the desire to rule out abnormalities that aren't causing symptoms yet. Usually, we can reassure them.'
Cristina has been a radiologist at Prescan for eleven years and previously worked in regular healthcare. She performs (preventive) MRI scans and evaluates the results for any risk factors and potential conditions.
It happens that Cristina does find a medically relevant abnormality. In those cases, preventive examination proves its worth. In most cases, it is sufficient to follow the health advice. Sometimes a referral to the hospital is necessary. Prescan maintains direct lines with highly regarded hospitals in regular healthcare. When a relevant finding is made, they ensure the right care in the right place. If the MRI scan does not provide full clarity, Cristina advises a more extensive examination.
Friendly Reception
Making an appointment at Prescan is simple and quick. The examinations take only half a day. A full check-up is called a bodyscan. You can undergo a complete bodyscan or just a targeted examination. The latter is advisable if you have specific complaints that manifest in a particular area of the body. A team of medical specialists guides and assesses the various examinations using high-quality equipment and state-of-the-art MRI scanners. During the regular bodyscan, five MRI scans are made of the skull and brain, neck vessels, chest, upper abdomen, and lower abdomen. If desired, you can expand this with a cardiovascular examination, skin diagnostics, or a laboratory examination. You receive the results immediately.
Between examinations, clients can relax in the lounge. Esther felt immediately at ease there. 'I was received and guided in a very friendly manner. When it was my turn, I was picked up and the medical specialist calmly went through everything with me.' The results were favorable for Esther. No identifiable conditions were found, except for one small thing: a dormant hernia. That surprised her. 'I do sports and exercise a lot, never have back pain. Yet they found a slight bulge in a vertebra. The advice was to do back and abdominal exercises. Then I don't have to expect any problems. It's good that I know that. If I had not gone to Prescan, I would never have known and that hernia might indeed have become a problem.'
